How I made this Multimedia Video for the KPBS Rap Diego Podcast
I was hired by the host of The Parker Edison project to create a special video enhancement for the Rap Diego podcast, highlighting many years of San Diego artists’ innovation in Hip hop culture. The theme was Music Machines of the 90s, highlighting the Roland 808 Drum Machine, ASR 10 sampler keyboard and the AKAI MPC.
I decided to create a visual vibe that looked like it came from the 90s and recorded artists interviews, edited a studio demo, crated original illustrations of teh machines (I didn’t have any photos with rights I could use) and characters I named, “Machine heads.” I also created the motion graphics like the 3d rotating title, custom lower thirds pulsating studio control room graphic, an interview subject placed inside the MPC screen, and multiple, fast edit graphics of teh MPC Sampler. I used ai in the planning, creating temporary visuals to storyboard the graphics, I also used ai voiceover (Runway had the best voice model at the time), and created some ai music for the background.
The budget was small for this project so in addition to doing everything myself I also used photos, video and other assets from my licensed Envato account. I definitely recommend them if you need a one-stop-shop for creative assets.
